My Dark Circles (Slam Poem)

I finally had inspiration recently, of course this inspiration came at 4am but no matter. Some editing later I got a poem I'm content with. It's called My Dark Circles. I feel like many people can relate to the whole getting asked if your tired when you decide not to wear makeup one day. This poem is about the story behind my dark circles, metaphorically and literally.

This is a video of me slamming My Dark Circles.

It Means He Likes You (Slam Poem)

All my life I've been writing and recently I decided to pick it up and try to write about current issues. My focus currently is feminism and issues related to it. This poem was published in my high school literary magazine, The Hickman Review. This isn't the first time my work was published but this is a piece I'm very proud of. I was able to slam it at a local art studio in my town and I got nothing but good reviews.

This video is me slamming the poem I wrote called It Means He Likes You.

Everyday Look (Winged Eyeliner)

This is my everyday look when I'm out for a night. It's more of a formal look, I won't wear this to Walmart or when I'm at a friends house but if I'm on a date or just out doing some shopping I will do the winged eyeliner.

The following video is not a tutorial, more of a "how I do my face and what I use to do it" type of video.

The products I used are listed in the description of the video but if you don't have the time or effort to click the video, I will list them below and add photos as well.

A Good Find and Unborn Nostagia

Instead of Plato's Closet, I went to Goodwill (only after seeing the chaos that was the grab bag sale.) It really is luck when you get lucky at Goodwill, and when I went, I swear they just got a whole shipment of clothes my size.

I tried on everything but couldn't afford everything and ended up getting just four items; a dress, a skirt, a v-neck, and a tank top.

The tank top was iffy for me but I try to keep an open mind about my style. I want to stay up-to-date but have my own spin on things. And floral and frilly is in. I think its very grown up with a pair of leggings and this outfit if sure to fit in with the college vibe.

The brand of the top is Lauren Conrad and her ruffled tank tops sell at Kohl's for around $20. I bought this at Goodwill for $3.

This could be worn in the Fall as well as Spring and Summer because although it's floral, the colors can go with any season. All but winter of course. It's a tank top.

This outfit consists of both the skirt and shirt I got from Goodwill. The top is just a Merona v-neck that you can get from target for about $15 and I got it for $3. But it was simple and cheap and although it's fun to get floral and frilly, simple is always nice too. This picture isn't a good example of a simple outfit. Do as I say, not as I do.

The skirt is a floral patterned and has a very nice nature color scheme going on. It's from Forever 21 and their skirt prices range from $10 to $30 and I got it for $4.

The last thing I got was a very cute polka dot button down dress. The reason I got it was it sends off a very 50's housewife vibe. Not because it's a life goal to be a housewife, but because I really enjoy looks inspired by different eras, such as the 50's and 60's.

Sadly there was no tag to tell the brand but either way it's right up my ally. It fits perfectly and only cost $4.50.

It seemed necessary to pose with lipstick like I was in a vintage Macy's ad. And matched with a pair of heels with a bow on them, it fit the part beautifully.

I would never want to live in the 50's though, it seems horrendous. I just like the style. Unborn nostalgia for old fashion.

Thanks for reading my blog, if you have any suggestions for what I should post, let me know. Next I plan to do a Summer Soundtrack post and hopefully start a YouTube channel for maybe some makeup tips even though I'm far from pro. It's just a hobby.

Finally 18! Thrifting and Theatre.

Today was the day. I FINALLY turned 18. Today was also Plato's grab bag sale. That was an experience, a friend and I decided to check it out. We get there 30 minutes after opening and I've never seen so many desperate white moms in one place besides their sons soccer game.

Me and my friend dipped, we were not about to fight these white people for one top. So we went to Goodwill. A haul post will come tomorrow or whenever.

When we got back home and had a few close friends come over for cake. One of my friend's (who is getting married soon and made me her bridesmaid and wedding planner - congrats to her) came by and gave me a beautiful rose, I adore roses on a very strong emotional scale. Another friend gave me a coffee maker, surprisingly. I didn't ask for anything, I just didn't want to eat cake alone.

After everyone left I went to  dinner and wore my nice shoes and a dress, only because afterwards I would be going to see a musical. I have an emotional connection with theatre so I was thrilled to go. A play review will come up at some point too.

I'm taking off this weekend to do hard drugs. Like meth. Kidding. Birthday weekend, I just wanna play video games and drink Baja Blast.

Let's Get Some Shoes. Let's Party.

If you didn't get that reference then I feel really old. And I am really old, I turn 18 on Saturday, July 19th. So to treat myself, I got some money from graduation and bought shoes I don't need. Do I fit in the stereotype now? Am I finally a "real woman"? Life goals achieved. (Sarcasm.)
Either way, my mall has a Payless in it and they were having a lot of clearance items so I searched through them. It took some thought but I ended up getting two pairs.

The first pair I got were a pair of pumps with a tropical vibe. The brand is Fioni and they were originally $29.99 and I got them for $20. Not much of a save but it still counts. Too cute to pass up.

The second pair I got were a sandal with a slight heel. They have more of a bohemian vibe. Made by American Eagle, they didn't have an original price tag but I would assume that they were $20-$30 dollars and I got them for $10. How could I say no to that?

Thrifting?

When people tell me they "thrift shop" and then tell me they went to Plato's Closet, I get a little confused. Don't get me wrong, I love Plato's but I wouldn't consider it a thrift shop, that's more Salvation Army or Goodwill. Also, Plato's Closet is a little bit more expensive than most thrift shoppes. But I guess it doesn't matter, used clothes are used clothes no matter where you get them.
Nevertheless, I went to Plato's the other day and decided to try a style I've been eyeing for a while (that rhymed.) High waisted shorts and a crop top.
I was happy with the price I paid for both items (although it wasn't the thrift shop price that I'm used to, I'm not complaining.)

The shorts were Machine Pour Neuf Mode brand and cost $8.00, retail around $30-$45. That was the Amazon price anyway, their website was confusing for me and didn't show prices. Either way it was a deal!
The top is Forever 21 brand and cost $5.00, they retail at around $8-$20. Not as good of a deal but still very pleased.

This Saturday, July 19th (my birthday), Plato's Closet is having a grab bag sale. This means you stuff as many clearance items in a bag as possible and it's all only $15. So if you're in a town with a participating Plato's Closet, you should check it you.
